Insomnia is a sleep disorder in which it’s very difficult to fall asleep or staying asleep despite having the time and willingness to sleep. Insomnia is a difficult situation in which the patient feels sleepy and tries to sleep but they are unable to. Insomnia patients feel fatigued and tiredness even after waking up due to improper sleep. Most of the insomnia patients take sleeping pills to fall asleep which is useful for the time being but has many side-effects in long-term use. There are many alternative and holistic ways to treat insomnia. Following is the list of some remedies to treat insomnia.





Chamomile









Chamomile is a very
common herb used to cure insomnia. Chamomile tea is very helpful in making you
fall asleep. It helps calm your senses, relax your mind, and improves your
overall mood. Reduction in stress levels may make you fall asleep. Many
insomnia patients find chamomile very helpful but there is no scientific
evidence of its effectiveness. However, many doctors are researching on its
anti-insomnia properties. Chamomile doesn’t have any side-effects.





Sunlight to Promote Healthy Melatonin









Melatonin is a hormone produced by a gland in the human brain which has a critical role in sleep disorder and wake cycle. Sunlight is very helpful to achieve restful sleep at night and produce positive melatonin. This is because our body relies on natural light to figure out what time it is and to determine whether to produce energetic hormones or the ones that make you relaxed and sleepy. Therefore, exposure to sunlight is very important for insomnia patients and it also has many other benefits. It is recommended to insomnia patients to keep their room blinds open at day time and make a routine of exercising outdoors on a regular bases.





 Lavender









Lavender is very
effective for calming the senses. Lavender scent has a powerful effect on your
mood and it also helps activate sleeping hormones. Use lavender as aromatherapy.
Fill your washroom with lavender scented candles and pour few drops of lavender
essence oil in your bath tub to take a relaxing and calming lavender bath
before going to bed. This will generate your sleeping hormones and you will
lead to a good night’s sleep. It’s highly recommended to an insomnia patient to
take a lavender bath on regular basis before going to bed and use lavender
scents to calm and relax the stress hormones in order to fall asleep.





Valerian









From centuries Valerian
plants root are used to reduce anxiety and promote relaxation which lead to peaceful
sleeping habits. It is also stated that valerian root helps people to doze off
faster and sleep more soundly. Valerian root is a quick remedy for insomnia
patients but at the same time it’s not very good for long-term use.





Lemon balm









Lemon balm helps to
reduce insomnia and promotes relaxation. It is suitable for kids and adults
both since it doesn’t have any side-effects. Lemon has many disinfectant
properties that’s why lemon balm will not create any type of skin reactions.
The refreshing and calming scent of lemon will help insomnia patients to relax
their muscles and enjoy a deep peaceful sleep.
